Books and Topics

BibleSpeak supports many free Books and Topic Downloads.

An exciting new feature of BibleSpeak 3.05 is the ability to display “Books” (or “Topics”) made up of individual “Chapters”. An example of a book might be “Wars of the Jews” by the historian Josephus, or the appendixes of “The Companion Bible”. Chapter 35 of “The Companion Bible – Appendixes” is shown below.

A “Book” is a general term for any collection of individual files or “Chapters”, and can contain just about anything. For example:

  • Personal Bible notes that you have collected on various Bible verses or topics. You might create a Book called “My Bible Notes” with chapters such as “Revelation Chapter 1”, “John Chapter 3”, etc.
  • A collection of Public talk or sermon outlines.
  • Any collection of Html files you desire on any subject. The “BibleSpeak Help” files are an example.

Three Book Formats Are Supported:

  1. Html files. Any collection of Html files created inside a Book folder. The folder name is the name of the book, such as “Wars of the Jews”, and the individual html files contain the text and name of each chapter. Html is the preferred BibleSpeak format for Books and Topics.
  2. e-Sword® “Topic” files. BibleSpeak is able to display most “Topic” files available from the popular e-Sword® Bible program. BibleSpeak will automatically locate any e-Sword® topic files installed in e-Sword® and make them available to BibleSpeak. BibleSpeak gives you the option to convert any e-Sword® topic file from e-Sword® format into simple Html files. It will then be easy to edit and add to them.
  3. PDF files. BibleSpeak can also display PDF files such as the Anti-Nicene Fathers in Greek and English which is available from our web site. You will need to have the Adobe Acrobat reader installed on your computer in order to view PDF books.

(See E-Sword Support in the Bible menu.) You can download the e-Sword® program and its publications from: www.e-sword.net. Manually adding Books to BibleSpeak

(Note: To create a new html Book using BibleSpeak, select Add from the Edit-Book menu.)

It is easy to manually add a new Book to BibleSpeak. Follow the steps below:

  1. Create a new folder to contain the new Book contents.

In BibleSpeak all Books are located in a folder named “Q-Books” which is located in the same folder that you installed the BibleSpeak program.

To manually create a new book, first create a new folder, inside the “Q-Books” folder, that has the name of the Book you want to add to BibleSpeak. For example, if you wanted to add a new Book you found on the internet, named “Wars of the Jews”, create a new folder, inside the “Q-Books” folder named “Wars of the Jews”.

  2. Copy the chapter files into the new folder.

Into the new folder you created above, copy the individual chapter files that make up the Book.

    a. For html Books, copy each html chapter file into the folder. The name of the html chapter file will be used by BibleSpeak as the name of the chapter. All chapter files in the Book should all have the same extension, “.htm” or “.html”. (If the html chapter files contain images, their corresponding image folders may also be copied into the new Book folder.)  Note:  Chapter names are sorted in alphabetical order. If you want to force the chapters to appear in a certain order, begin their names with numerical digits, such as “001 – “, “002 – “, etc.

    b. For e-Sword® Topic files, copy the single e-Sword® topic file (with the extension “.top”) into the folder.

    c. For PDF Books, copy the single PDF Book file (with the extension “.PDF”) into the folder.

  3. Restart BibleSpeak to View the newly added Books

Any manually added books will be available to BibleSpeak the next time you start BibleSpeak.
