Q-WordSpeak 3.0 Changes
Q-WordSpeak 3.0 has undergone some very
significant changes since the release of Q-WordSpeak 2.2 over two years ago. It is
now easier to use and has many new features. Dozens of new Bible translations
are supported, as well as many well known Bible Commentaries and Bible
Dictionaries. Printing out scriptures for Bible study has been improved with
new easy to use print styles and added support for Microsoft Word. For those of
you upgrading to Q-WordSpeak 3.0 from an earlier version of Q-WordSpeak, a
partial list of changes is listed below.

1. New
World Translation
Q-WordSpeak can now work with the newest 2003 and 2004 versions of the
Watchtower Library CD to access the New World Translation. In addition,
improvements were made to the Bible – New World Translation - Optimize
Chapters menu function. If you could not get this feature to work
previously, it should now work fine! (The “Display Verses Only” option in
the Watchtower Library Bible window is now set in a more foolproof manner.
This menu choice
has also been renamed to "Bible - New World Translation - Import Chapters
from WT Library".)
2.
New Microsoft Office 2003 Look.
Q-WordSpeak 3.0 has been designed to be easy to use and similar to the latest
look of Microsoft Office 2003. This look has been applied to all the menus,
toolbars, and other user interface features of Q-WordSpeak.
Many other Q-WordSpeak “Looks” are also possible.
See
Customizing Q-WordSpeak which shows how to change the overall look and feel
of menus, toolbars and dialogs.

3. Task
Panes.
Many of the most common and useful
Q-WordSpeak tasks are available on Task Panes which are
located on the left side of Q-WordSpeak. Click on the name of a task,
such as “New Bible Window” or “Print Verses for Bible Study”,
to perform the task. See
Task Panes.
Show/Hide Task Pane
To display or hide the Task Pane, select Task Pane from the
View menu, or select Display Task Pane from the Tasks
menu.
Available Task Panes
There are a number of task panes available. To switch to a different
task pane, display the Tasks menu, and then click one of the
available task panes. You can also select or change the current task
pane by clicking on the task pane drop-down button, located to the right
of the tasks pane “home” icon ,
and then click on a task pane in the resulting drop down list.

4. Toolbars.
There have been a number of changes to the toolbars used in Q-WordSpeak:
The default arrangement of Toolbars has been changed to make the screen less
cluttered.
Toolbars relating to Editor Documents have been moved to inside the Editor
Document window. This includes the Fonts, Paragraph and Table
Toolbars. The Headings toolbar, which contained a Heading combo
box and a Select next heading button, has been removed. The Headings
combo box has been changed into a Styles button (looks like a large “H”),
and has been added to the Paragraph toolbar. Click on the Styles
button to switch paragraph heading styles. A Citations toolbar has also
been added to the Editor window to help with inserted Citation Fields.
The Bible and Browser toolbars have also been moved into their
respective windows.
5. The Outlook
Bar functions are now located in the Task Panes described above.
Gospel Parallels are now displayed by clicking on the Gospel Parallels
task in the Bible Actions task pane. This will display a list of both the
Gospel Parallels and the Gospel Parallels Combined. Click on an item in the list
to display the corresponding verse text for the Gospel Parallel. The verses are
displayed in a View at the bottom of Q-WordSpeak. The window is displayed with a
“Gospel Parallels” toolbar that allows you to quickly select which Bible(s) to
get the verse text from, and to expand and contract the citations.
The verses in the gospel parallels are now automatically “expanded” to
show the actual verse text. Previously you had to select the “Expand all
Citation fields” command to show the verses, and this was not very obvious to
many people. There might be a slight delay while the verses are being expanded
before you actually see them.
Browser Favorites are now displayed by clicking on the New From
Favorites task in the Browser Actions task pane. This will display a
list your favorite web pages. Click on an item in the list to display a new
Browser window containing the corresponding web page.
6. Bible
and Browser Panes and Views have undergone some major changes and enhancements.
Bible Panes and Browser Panes have been eliminated. They are
replaced by Bible and Browser “Windows” which display as tabbed windows on top
of the Editor View area. They are created by selecting New Bible Window
or New Web Browser Window from the File menu. They can also be
created by selecting the corresponding tasks from the Bible, Browser and Home
task panes. Note: Bible and Browser “panes” are now called “Windows”. Only the
Task Pane uses the term “pane”.
Bible Translations – Support for over fifty different Bible translations
which can be viewed and compared with each other.

Up to 20 Bible and Browser windows may be created. There is no longer a limit of
five.
When creating a new Bible Window, you can now enter the exact verses to display.
This replaces the old method of displaying the default chapter of Genesis
chapter one, which was not very useful.
The title or caption area of Bible Windows now display the citations for the
verses actually displayed. For example: “Hebrews 1:6-8” rather than “Bible
Window 1”...
When displaying a new Bible Window, a default style and a default selection of
Bibles is used. If no default selection of Bibles exists, the Bible Selection
dialog displays so you can select which Bibles to display.
Whenever you change the display style or the selected Bibles for a particular
Bible Window the new settings become the default settings for future new Bible
Windows.
New Bible and Browser Windows are all positioned near the top of Q-WordSpeak. If
multiple Windows are displayed at the same time, they are contained in “Tabbed
Windows”, which have bottom tabs that can be clicked to display the
corresponding window.
You can also rearrange the order of the tabs by selecting a tab and then
dragging it to the left or right.
Right click the mouse anywhere inside the Bible window to display the Bible
context menu. This provides quick access to common Bible window features

Bible Views now contain their own Bible Window
Toolbar.

Verses. The printer margins and orientation are automatically set to the
correct values. It is no longer necessary to manually set these values using the

above.)
A “Preview” button has been added to preview how Bible Study Verses will
print on your printer.
An MS-Word button has been added. This button opens the Bible Study
Verses inside Microsoft Word, if you have Microsoft Word version 2000 or
newer installed. You can then use Microsoft Word to further format the verses
and print them. For example, once inside Microsoft Word, you might display the
Microsoft Word Format menu and then select Columns to change the
number of columns.
The Copy button has been removed to simplify the dialog. You can still do
a “Copy” by right clicking on the Bible text window, selecting Select
All, then right click again and select Copy.
The term “Collect Verses” has been replaced with “Bible Study Verses” in all
menus and dialogs. Note the dialog caption above.
The title (ex. “Reflect the Mental Attitude of Christ”) is now only
displayed in the first table or page of verses.
A number of buttons have been moved, renamed, or deleted to simplify the overall
appearance.
Many default display (print) styles have been created for your convenience.
Please see the document
Print Verses for Bible Study for pictures and details of the new styles.
The Formats and Tables buttons have been replaced with a new
Bible Study Verses Options button. Clicking on this button displays the
following dialog which allows complete control over how collected verses should
be displayed and printed.
14. Useful
Print Styles for Printing Verses for Bible Study
Q-WordSpeak comes with a variety of
default display styles. You can easily select one using the Bible Verses
(“Print and Preview”) dialog.
_Default Portrait. This is the default display style when you run
Q-WordSpeak for the first time. Two columns are displayed vertically. Several
variations are included with different colors, backgrounds and text sizes. The
variations all have names beginning with “_Default Portrait”. For example,
“_Default Portrait Beige” and “_Default Portrait Text Size Large”.

_Default Landscape. Four columns are
displayed horizontally. The printed page can be folded in half to show two
vertical columns on each half page.

_Default Two Tables. This style features two
tables of verses, side by side with two columns per table. The printout is
designed to be folded in half so that it fits nicely inside a book or magazine,
and is very useful!

_Default No Tables. This style is a very
simple style without tables or multiple columns. This style is likely the most
compatible with other software programs.

_Default Simple Table. This style is similar
to “_Default No Tables” but displays the results in a simple one column table.

15. Bible
Verses Options Dialog
A new dialog has been created to make it easy to
change all aspects of how Bible Study Verses are displayed and printed. Previous
to this new dialog, changing how Bible Study Verses were displayed involved
several dialogs and menus which were not obvious to most people
It is no longer necessary to manually figure out table sizes to fit paper
orientation and margins. Now you simply select the orientation (portrait or
landscape) and the number of tables per page.
