BibleSpeak Update History

BibleSpeak 4.0 Enhancements - Released April 2008

  1. Print Verses for Bible Study - Subheadings Added - Verse Lists

When printing verses for Bible study, you may now include subheadings which will print along with their supporting Bible verses and Title.

A new "Subheading" button has been added to the "Bible Study Verses" dialog which allows inserting a subheading at any location in the verse list.

Verses below each subheading may have their own staring number, such as "Paragraph 1". This allows subheadings to represent different publications, articles, or verse lists, while permitting verses for all subheadings to be printed together.

Beginning in April 2008, the "Download Verses" button, in the "Bible Study Verses" dialog, will download verses which include subheadings. BibleSpeak 4.0 will be needed to view and print the downloaded verses with enhanced subheadings.
  2. New Unlock Keys

BibleSpeak 4.0 will require a new unlock key. Owners of previous versions of BibleSpeak can purchase a key from www.BibleSpeak.com for an upgrade price of $14.95.

Customers who have purchased BibleSpeak 3.08 in the last 60 days, February or March of 2008, may obtain a free unlock key for BibleSpeak 4.0 upon request. Customers who have recently purchased the special BibleSpeak 3.08 unlock for $9.95 may also receive a free unlock key for BibleSpeak 4.0 upon request.

New BibleSpeak customers can purchase a BibleSpeak 4.0 unlock key for $29.95 or an unlock key with a BibleSpeak 4.0 CD-ROM for $39.95.

BibleSpeak 4.0 unlock keys will not "expire". They will work even if you have to reinstall BibleSpeak 4.0 due to a system crash, hard disk failure, etc.
  3. New Default Settings

    a. The default dialog used to enter Bible citations is now the “Optional Citations Dialog". This dialog is easier and faster to use then the standard dialog.

    b. The default "Volume" setting for speaking text has been changed from 0 percent to 50 percent, so that when BibleSpeak speaks text it will initially be heard, without the user having to change the volume in the "Speak Text" dialog.
  4. Importing the NWT from 2007 WT Reader

For those interested in the New World Translation, it is now possible to import the NWT from the latest 2007 "WT Reader" program, as well as from the older "WT Library" programs. This will add the NWT to the many other BIble Translations supported by BibleSpeak.
  5. Synchronizing Bible and Commentary Windows Enhanced

Clicking on a verse in the Bible window now causes the Commentary window to display comments on the specific verse that was clicked.

(When verses in the Bible window are first displayed, the Commentary window displays comments for only the first verse in the Bible Window.)
  6. Support for New e-Sword Formats

BibleSpeak 4.0 supports recent changes in e-Sword modules regarding Strong's Numbers. Both the old and the new Strong's Numbers formats are supported.

Support has been added for e-Sword modules that used to generate the message "Unknown field type 8209".
  7. Enhancements to support the NET Bible with Translation and Study Notes

A number of enhancements have been made to support the NET Bible and its extensive Translation and Study Notes. The NET Bible can be downloaded in e-Sword format which BibleSpeak supports.

    b. Clicking on a NET Bible verse in BibleSpeak's Bible window will  cause the NET Commentary window to display Translation and Study notes on the verse that was clicked. (If the Commentary window is currently displaying another commentary, the user will be prompted to switch to the NET Commentary.)

    c. The names of the various NET Bibles have been simplified to "NET Bible Without References", "NET Bible With References", "NET Bible Commentary".

    d. clicking on a link in the NET BIble Commentary that references a map, will display the map in a new Internet Explorer window. (For an example see the NET Commentary comments for Revelation 1:11)

BibleSpeak 3.08 Enhancements  - Released September 2007

  1. New "Auto Hide" Feature

An "Auto Hide" feature has been added to the Task Panes, Word Study, Bible and Commentary windows, that allows them to be temporarily hidden and makes more room for other BibleSpeak windows.

Clicking on the "push-pin" button in the upper right hand corner of the window Title bar, to  the left of the "x", will temporarily hide the window. The hidden window will be displayed as a tab on the top or left side of BibleSpeak. To redisplay the hidden window, click on the tab that represents the hidden window to expand it, and then click on its "push-pin" button to lock it in place.
  2. Enlarged Word Study and Bible Dictionary Windows

The Word Study window has been moved and is now displayed underneath the Task Panes window, on the left side of BibleSpeak. Previously it was displayed on the right side of BibleSpeak, under the Dictionary windows and it's height was limited by the size of the Dictionary windows.

It is now possible to see more Word Study and Bible Dictionary contents without scrolling. The Bible Dictionary Window is now enlarged to the full height of the BibleSpeak window.

If you "auto-hide" the Task Panes window, the Word Study window will also expand to take up the full height of the BibleSpeak window.
  3. Additional Text-To-Speech Features

In response to a number of requests by BibleSpeak customers, three new controls have been added to the "Speak Text" dialog. It is now possible to adjust the Pitch, Speed and Volume of spoken text. To display the dialog, select "Speak" from the BibleSpeak "Speak" menu.
  4. Other Enhancements

    a. The maximum number of "Books" or "Topic" files supported by BibleSpeak has been increased from 300 to 500.

    b. A number of updates have been made to make BibleSpeak even more compatible with Microsoft Windows "Vista". The "Search the Bible..." feature is now compatible with Vista.

    c. The "Check for BibleSpeak Updates" item has been removed from the BibleSpeak "Help" menu, as it was causing problems with some anti-spyware programs. To check for BibleSpeak updates visit the www.BibleSpeak.com website.

BibleSpeak 3.06 - Released December 15, 2006

New Window Layout

  1. All BibleSpeak Windows are Visible and displayed in Default Locations

The Bible, Commentary, Dictionary, Word Study, Book or Topic, and Task Pane windows are all initially displayed in default locations and are no longer hidden behind tabs or allowed to float or be "docked" to other locations. This should make BibleSpeak even easier to use and allows new features such as synchronizing the Bible and Commentary windows.

Note: If you want to float and dock BibleSpeak windows to other locations, you can select "Docking Styles" from the "Tools" menu and then select "Enable Docking". However, the flexibility of being able to float and move BibleSpeak windows to other locations makes it possible for you to create undesirable and confusing layouts. To restore BibleSpeak windows to their default locations, select "Restore Default Settings" from the "Help" menu and then exit and restart BibleSpeak.

  2. By default the Bible and Commentary windows are now "Synchronized"

Whenever the contents of the Bible window change, such as a new book or chapter, the Commentary window also changes to display commentary on the same book and chapter. This feature can be turned on and off by selecting "Synchronize Bible and Commentary Windows" from the Bible menu.

  3. A New Microsoft Office 2007 "look and feel" is now available

Select "Toolbar and Menu Styles" from the "Tools" menu, and then select "Office 2007"  Or you can select "Options" from the "Task Panes" menu and select "Office 2007" from the Task Pane.  The default BibleSpeak "look and feel" is still "Office 2003".

  4. All BibleSpeak Help files have been updated

All help files have been updated with new content and descriptive chapter names.

Bible Window Changes

  1. There is now a single main Bible window

It displays in the upper portion of BibleSpeak. It is always visible and can not be hidden.

Right-clicking the mouse in the Bible window now displays a much smaller and less confusing context menu. The available items on the context menu are: Select All, Copy Selected Text, and Speak Selected Text.

  4. Bible Task Pane Changes

The "Bible Tools" task pane has been removed as its functions are now available on the new "BibleSpeak Home" task pane and from the Bible Toolbar.

Other Enhancements

  1. The Print buttons on toolbars now do a Print Preview instead of a direct Print. This allows more control of the content and format of printing. (When editing a document in the BibleSpeak Editor window, the Print button has not changed. Print Preview is available from the File menu.)
  2. Added Help buttons to the Bible, Commentary, Dictionary, and Book and Topic Toolbars.
  3. Increased initial size of Message popup windows.

BibleSpeak 3.051 - Released September 27, 2006

3. In the task pane, items whose windows are currently visible, such as the "Word Study Window" or "Dictionary Window" are now indicated by preceding them with a "+" sign, for example: "+ Word Study Window".  Previously visibility was indicated by using a blue color, for example: "Word Study Window".

BibleSpeak 3.05 - Released September 1, 2006

New Features - A Major Release!

1.  "BibleSpeak"!

The former “Q-WordSpeak” program has been renamed “BibleSpeak”.

The name “BibleSpeak” more clearly describes the features and goals of the program. BibleSpeak’s many research tools will enable you to study God’s word in depth and let the Bible speak to your heart. It also can literally “speak” the Bible to you, out loud, using its “text to speech” technology.

2.   Books and Topics

An exciting new feature of BibleSpeak 3.05 is the ability to display “Books” made up of individual “Chapters”, such as the “Wars of the Jews” by the historian Josephus, the appendixes of “The Companion Bible”, or your own personal Bible Commentary created from notes that you have collected on various Bible verses or topics.

Three Book formats are supported: Html files, e-Sword® Topic files, and PDF files! See Books and Topics for details.

Many free Books are available from the Free Book and Topics download area.

3.  Over 25 New Bibles, Commentaries and Dictionaries!

Over 20 new Bible Translations and several new Bible Dictionaries and Bible Commentaries are now available for free download. See the download sections: Bibles, Dictionaries and Commentaries.

4.    BibleSpeak Help

The BibleSpeak help files have been organized into a new “Book” named “BibleSpeak Help” made up of individual “chapter” files.

5.    Wt Library 2005 and 2006 support

BibleSpeak is now able to import the New World Translation directly from the 2005 (and 2006) versions of the Wt Library.

6.    Print Verses for Bible Study Enhanced

Bible verses may now be downloaded directly from our web site for use in the Bible Study Verses dialog. This feature will help those who may have internet settings or computers that have trouble using the Download Verses button of the Bible Study Verses dialog.

7.    Bible Window Initially Displayed

BibleSpeak now displays an initial default Bible Window. In the past a Bible window was not initially displayed, and many users did not know that they needed to select “New Bible Window” from the “Bible” menu in order to display Bible verses.

8.    New Default Settings

a. The default dialog used to enter Bible citations is now the “advanced” dialog. This dialog is easier and faster to use then the standard dialog.

b. The default style for printing verses for Bible study now uses “two tables” per page. This prints verses in landscape mode and allows the printed page to be easily folded in half to easily fit inside most printed publications.

9.    Restore Default Settings

You can now restore default settings to BibleSpeak by selecting “Restore Default Settings” from the “Help” menu. The next time you run BibleSpeak default settings will be used. This may help resolve rare window display problems or other problems.

10.    e-Sword® Enhancements

A number of enhancements have been made to better support e-sword® modules:

a. BibleSpeak is now able to display e-sword® “Topic” modules, and can convert them to html format, which you can easily edit, if desired. See Books and Topics.

b. Support for e-Support modules can be turned on and off by selecting “Include e-sword® Modules in BibleSpeak” from the “e-sword® Support” item of the “Bible” menu. Turning off e-sword® support will help BibleSpeak start faster.

c. Underlined text is now displayed correctly in e-sword® modules.

d. All e-sword® modules are automatically included and available to BibleSpeak, even when you add new e-sword® modules. In the past you had to specifically select any newly added e-sword® modules in order for them to be included in BibleSpeak. It is now also possible to select e-sword® modules to “exclude” from BibleSpeak.

e. e-sword® password protected files are now viewable using standard Microsoft Access methods and do not require any prior knowledge or guessing of passwords.

f. You may also list your own unique passwords to e-sword® files, you have created, in a special password file named "mdbpswds.txt". Simply place the file in the BibleSpeak installation folder and BibleSpeak will use these passwords to open your password protected files. The format of the file is one password per line and can be created by any simple word processor such as notepad.

11. Internet Explorer 7 support

Several changes have been made to support the printing of Bible verses when Internet Explorer 7 is installed on your computer.

Q-WordSpeak 3.04 – Released June 23, 2005

New Features:

  1. The “Print Verses for Bible Study” feature now supports A4 paper size printouts used in Europe and Australia. A new field has been added to the Bible Study Verses - Options dialog that allows you to chose between A4 and US Letter size paper size.

  2. The maximum number of Bibles has been increased to 200 and the maximum number of Commentaries has been increased to 50.

  3. Better support for e-sword® style formatted Bibles. One Bible format used in Q-WordSpeak is similar to "e-sword® formatted" modules. This format uses Microsoft Access files that have the extension ".bbl" (or ".qbbl"). The internet community is quite active in creating Bibles with this format for use with the popular e-sword® Bible program, but they can also be displayed in Q-WordSpeak. The following enhancements have been made to better display these files.

    1. Bibles files that had missing or extra verses can now be displayed.

    2. MS Access 2000 formatted Bible files are now supported. This is important because many Bibles on the Web were created with a tool called are the "BibleImportTool" which produces MS Access 2000 files.

  1. To add a new e-sword® formatted Bible file to Q-WordSpeak do the following.

    1. If you have the e-sword® program on your computer, install the file for use with e-sword®.

    2. Run Q-WordSpeak and select e-sword® Support from the Bible menu and then select Select Included e-sword® Bibles.

    3. In the list of e-sword® Bibles make sure the newly added Bible is selected. It will then be available to Q-WordSpeak.

  2. Another way to add an e-sword® formatted Bible to Q-WordSpeak does not require e-sword® to be installed on your computer. Do the following:

    1. Q-WordSpeak is usually installed in the folder “Q-WordSpeakPro” on your hard disk. Inside that folder there is a folder named “Q-Bibles” which contains a folder for each Bible installed in Q-WordSpeak.

    2. Create a new folder inside the “Q-Bibles” folder with a name that is similar to the Bible file you want to add, such as "A Conservative Version".

    3. Copy the new Bible file into the new folder you just created. The next time you run Q-WordSpeak it will list the new Bible you added.

  1. Adding e-Formatted style Commentaries and Dictionaries to Q-WordSpeak is similar to the steps above except that that you create your new folder inside the “Q-Commentary” or “Q-Dictionary” folder and then copy the new Commentary or Dictionary file into the new folder.

Fixes:

  1. Corrected a problem with the initial Splash screen that at times caused Q-WordSpeak to fail to start.

  2. The "Display Verses Cited in Text" feature finds and and correctly displays more verses cited in an Editor Document.

Q-WordSpeak 3.03 – Released May 23, 2005

New Features:

  1. Added a new Download Verses button to the Bible Study Verses dialog.

This feature allows you to download files from our website that can be used with the “Print Verses for Bible Study” feature. These files contain verses that have been pre-entered for various Book Study and Watchtower Study articles and will save you the time of entering the verses yourself.  You may still want to enter your own verses for current study articles, but if you are short on the time, these files will help. This feature is mainly used by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

To use this new feature do the following:

    1. Run Q-WordSpeak and select Print Verses for Bible Study from the Q-WordSpeak Bible menu to display the Bible Study Verses dialog.

    2. Click the Download Verses button in the Bible Study Verses dialog to display a list of current Bible Study Verses articles from the Q-Software web site.

    3. Select an article and click OK to download the verses into the Bible Study Verses dialog. This will load the verses into the Bible Study Verses dialog without you having to type them in yourself.

    4. Click on the Print and Preview button in the Bible Study Verses dialog to preview and print out the verses for your Bible study.

Fixes:

  1. The Bible Search dialog now displays multiple parallel Bibles correctly when the display style uses Bibles in sequence as opposed to Bibles in parallel columns.

  2. Not really a fix, but Q-WordSpeak no longer checks to determine your version of Internet Explorer when it first starts up. In very rare cases Q-WordSpeak was detecting an incorrect Browser version and displaying a message at startup. Since most everyone now has Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer on their computers it was decided to skip this check. You can still check the version manually by selecting Browser Requirements from the Help menu.

  3. Searching the Bible for the words beginning with “con” or “nul” caused an error message to be displayed. Windows does not allow a file to be named “con” or “nul” regardless of the extension. This has been fixed.

Q-WordSpeak 3.02 – Released April 25, 2005

  3. Added “Check for Q-WordSpeak Updates” to the Home Task Pane.

  4. Added “Download Bible Translations”, “Download Bible Commentaries” and “Download Bible Dictionaries” to the Help menu.

  5. Changed the background color of the Splash screen.

Fixes:

Q-WordSpeak 3.01 – Released April 17, 2005

New Features:

  1. When Printing Verses for Study, pressing the “Print” button in the “Bible Study Verses” dialog now displays the Print dialog, instead of sending the printout directly to the printer. This allows you to specify the number of copies to be printed.

  2. The “OK” button in the “Bible Study Verses” dialog has been renamed “Finished” since you typically click on it after you have “finished” printing the verses and no longer need the dialog to be displayed.

  3. The “OK” button in the “Optional” citations dialog has been enlarged and moved so that it is easier to click when you are finished entering verse citations. To use this “Optional” citations dialog, instead of the default one, select “Use Optional Citations Dialog” from the Bible menu.

Fixes:

  1. None

Updated Help file "menu_bible.htm" stored in the "Q-WordSpeak\Q-Outlook-Browse\Help" folder to reflect the above changes.

Added a New Bible Context Menu. When right clicking the mouse in a Bible "Pane" or "View", a new "Bible Context Menu" is displayed that gives quick access to the following items:
Select Bibles - Selects the Bibles displayed in the current Bible Pane or View.
Next Bible Display Style - Cycles through Bible Display Styles displayed in the current Bible Pane or View.

Speak Bible Chapter - Speaks the chapter displayed in the current Bible Pane or View.

Greek Bible Properties - Sets display properties for all Greek New Testament Bibles.

Greek Bible Display Strong's Numbers - Toggles the display of Strong's numbers in all Greek New Testament Bibles.

Greek Bible Display Parsing Information - Toggles the display of Parsing Information in all Greek New Testament Bibles.

KJV Bible Display Strong's Numbers - Toggles the display of Strong's numbers in the KJV Bible.

    View Menu

The view "Outlook Bar" has been moved from the View-Toolbars menu to the View menu for quicker access.

    File Menu

Added a "Recent Files" submenu that contains the recently opened files. They had been listed at the end of the File Menu items.

The "Web Browser" toolbar's default position has been changed to be displayed vertically on the left side of Q-WordSpeak. This makes it easier to access when viewing Web pages in Q-WordSpeak. If your "Web Browser" toolbar is not in this location, you can drag it, (or any other toolbar), to any side of Q-WordSpeak.

7. Strong's Number Display Enhancements

All strong numbers are now displayed without the "[]" and "()". This makes them easier to see and less obtrusive. For example:

"In [1722] the beginning [746] was [2258] (5713) the Word [3056]"

now displays as:

"In 1722 the beginning 746 was 2258 5713 the Word 3056"

The mouse cursor turns into a "hand" pointer when it is moved over a Strong's number to indicate that you can click on the number to get detailed original language information.

8. The tables displayed in the Word Study pane now have buttons that enable you to view the previous Word Study pane or the Next Word Study pane. (The same functions are available using the Next and Previous buttons of the Browser Toolbar, but are not as obvious or easy to use.)

Note: To display the button correctly the files BackArrow.gif and ForwardArrow.gif must exist in the Q-WordSpeak\Q-WordStudies\Strongs folder!

9. The "Splash" screen that appears when you first start Q-WordSpeak has been updated.

10. The Word Study pane has undergone major reformatting. The information is now displayed in an easy to read table format. The Display style is partially based on a CSS file in the Q-WordSpeak folder.

11. The mouse cursor changes to a Hand when it moves over Strong's numbers or Parsing information in the King James Bible and in the Word Study pane.

12. Changed indexing/searching so that a dash between two words does not mean two separate words. This is the most consistent approach for well formatted text, and helps with indexing, searching and KJV Strong's numbers.

13. Q-WordSpeak can now open Web Archive files, which have the extension of ".mht". These files can not be edited and saved, just viewed.

14. Updated the License Agreement. Please read it when you install the new version.

Fixes:

1. When displaying OT verses from multiple Bibles, and one of the Bibles contained only NT verses, incorrect verse text was sometimes displayed for the NT verses instead of "Book not found". This has been fixed.

2. In the Find Bible Words dialog, when changing verse display styles, with no parallel Bibles selected, the Display Verses dialog would, needlessly, display the Select Bibles dialog, thinking no Find Bible Words Bibles were selected. The Find Bible Words Bible was not recognized (set). This has been fixed.

Q-WordSpeak 2.03 – August 2, 2002

New Features:

  1. Added a color control button to the “Verse List” dialog allowing you to select the highlight color of selected verses. In addition the default highlight color has been changed from blue to yellow.
  2. The “Splash” screen that appears when you first start Q-WordSpeak has been updated.

 Fixes:

  1. The Bible(s) used when displaying “displayed or requested verses” were not being remembered by Q-WordSpeak, which meant that you had to reselect the Bibles every time you “displayed or requested verses”. This has been fixed.

Q-WordSpeak 2.02 – May 1, 2002

New Features:

  1. Added support for creating temporary index files for the NWT, until the customer downloads the NWT index files from www.q-software.com. This helps make the basic evaluation version of Q-WordSpeak smaller for faster downloads.
  2. The Bible(s) from which the Daily Scripture(s) are displayed and spoken can now be selected independently from any other Bible selections, and will not change when the “Display cited or requested selected Bibles” are changed. The “Select Bibles” menu has also been better organized.
  3. The evaluation version download of Q-WordSpeak is now made up of several smaller independent downloads. This results in a smaller download of the basic Q-WordSpeak program, and allows additional features, such as word studies and additional Bible translations, to be downloaded and installed separately.
  4. The feature “Q-WordSpeak Updates on the Web” has been added to the Help menu to check for new versions of Q-WordSpeak on the Web. If new versions of Q-WordSpeak are available, a “Wizard” will walk you through the simple update process.

 Fixes:

  1. Changed indexing/searching so that a dash between two words means two separate words. This results in more accurate searches and solves problems where “M” dashes are represented as “N” dashes in certain Bible translations.
  2. Fixed a problem that, in certain situations, caused selected Bibles used for Daily Scriptures not to be remembered after selecting them.

Q-WordSpeak 2.01 – April 18, 2002

New Features:

  1. Added support for automatic updates to Q-WordSpeak over the internet.
  2. Special “Web Deploy” features to help download the update to your computer.

 Fixes:

  1. None

Q-WordSpeak 2.00 – January, 2002
